Our beloved Miss Ella passed away on May 31, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. News of her passing spread all over the country, but our friends at Nola.com were the first to make the announcement. Miss Ella, as she was called, inspired so many of us every day to be the best we could be and to "fix it anyway." She will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Miss Ella's honor to the New Orleans Culinary and Hospitality Institue. Checks may be mailed to 1527 Third St., New Orleans, LA 70130. Please note, "Miss Ella."
Curious about the life of Miss Ella? The documentary Commanding the Table is now available on Netflix. And her autobiography Miss Ella Brennan: I don't Want a Restaurant Where a Jazz Band Can't Come Marching Through can be purchased on our website.
What would Miss Ella say? Here are a few of our favorite "Ella-isms:"
Commander's Palace was the most exciting that that ever happened to me.
Some people eat to live, we live to eat.
I sacrificed my body for the restaurant industry.
If it ain't broke, fix it anyway.
God and I are okay. He knew I had to work brunch.
